Utiel celebrated “250 AÑOS A LA LUZ DE LAS VELAS” (250Years in the Light of Candles). In 1764, farmers and beekeepers, in gratitude to La Virgin de los Remedios (a title of the Virgin Mary developed by the Trinitarian Order) for driving away a great storm, lit in the parish temple “as many lights as bees were counted in a swarm “. It is the oldest candle event in Spain. The yearly event, which takes place between the 7th and 9th of June, aims to energize the city’s heritage and economy.
